Pam Nichols Heads Down Under

The time has finally arrived for our dear friend Pam Nichols to head to Perth, Australia. Her husband Bill has been working there for several months now while Pam stayed behind to wrap up final moving arrangements.

It's hard to adequately thank Pam for the impact she made during her time as a member of Art On Broadway - she brought ideas and solutions, support and generosity; she shared her time and talents, inspiration and creativity, and always with her warm and genuine smile. Best of all she trusted us with her artwork - her spirited encaustic paintings with or without the "rusting" techniques that have been her trademark.

We will have a final AOB exhibit of Pam's work during the months of September and October, when her encaustic pieces will be available for sale on our featured walls one last time.

I think I can safely say that all of us at AOB feel blessed and honored to know Pam as an artist and friend, and to have been part of her journey these past few years. We wish her all the best and look forward to her regular visits back to the Portland area.

Fresh Air Art Affair

Spent some time this afternoon at Chehalem Mountain Art Affair and came home with this delightful ceramic totem for the garden by Todd Whitllock. Todd is one of 25 artists who have their work nestled in the forested area off Neugebauer Road. Follow the signs - the event continues through Sunday afternoon.

Three of Art On Broadway artists participated again this year - Virginia Parks, Kris Paul, and Jim Scheller. Look for them and their work when you're there!

Grand Opening at The Rise

Paul, Bert, and I attended the Grand Opening of the new apartment complex, The Rise, in downtown Beaverton tonight. Many of the local businesses in the neighborhood participated by gifting prizes for the evening's raffle and by providing pizza, craft beer, specialty coffees, and a refreshing sorbet and banana dessert. Great to see how the local businesses came together to welcome new residents to our community. We look forward to meeting the winner of our gift certificate when she visits the gallery to do a little shopping.

Pics From Gretha's Reception

If you missed Gretha Lindwood's reception on Saturday, you still have plenty of time to see the exciting collection of new paintings she has on exhibit at Art On Broadway from now through August 26. We extended our hours of operation to include Sundays to give visitors even more opportunity to spend time exploring new work by Gretha and all our member artists.

Mark your calendars now to attend a pastel demo by Gretha on Saturday, August 12, starting at five o'clock. It's like getting a class for free!

More Sneak Peeks

A montage of details from some of July-August's artwork. Visit the gallery for more details.

"Evocative Blues" - New Pastel Paintings by Gretha Lindwood

I just finished installing 15 new pastel paintings by Gretha Lindwood for the July and August featured member show. That's right - 15 new Lindwoods - a must see exhibit!

Here's a sneak peek!

 "Evocative Blues" - Front Wall

 Alcove Wall Toward The Front

 Alcove Wall Toward The Back

"Historic Barn"

"Summer Fanfare"

Our reception to honor Gretha is this Saturday, July 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. "Evocative Blues" is open now for viewing  and will continue through August 26. Trust me - this is a wonderful collection of paintings!

Take Your Pick - New Jewelry Designs

We now have four jewelry artists exhibiting their designs at the gallery since the addition of Heather John this month. Heather has shown her work previously in our guest shows and boutiques, but is now a permanent member of the gallery. She describes her design style as, "elegant gemstone jewelry with an edge."

Below are new necklaces designed by Carli Schultz, Bert Cohen, and Elaine Tan - each one with a unique style and different use of materials. Treat yourself or choose a piece as a gift.

"Echoes Of Light" - West Side Art Guild

Our July Guest Show is ready for viewing and will remain on exhibit through July 29. The work is by seven plein air painters from the West Side Art Guild - Michele Bufton, Jeanne Cuddeford, Bev Kindley, Taylor Mason, Patty McMahan, Kathy Pugh, and George Schweser.

Join us on Saturday, July 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. for our Artists Reception.

Remember, we are now open on Sundays from 11 to 6 - one more day to visit and check out the latest work.

Silk & Wool - A Wow Factor

I just completed the install of our July/August show and thought I'd share some of the lovely fiber art that is available this rotation. Kris Paul's hand dyed silk scarves in luscious shades of denim and raspberry are both beautiful to the eye and alluring to the touch.

Wool and silk purses, hats, scarves, vessels, wine sleeves, and oven mitts are all handmade by artist Patricia Rehm. She even added a silk tunic to her inventory this time. All of Patricia's fiber art is great for gift giving to special friends or keeping as a reward to yourself. Prices start as low as $32 for hand dyed, handmade functional or wearable art.

Final Call....

Art On Broadway Gallery has offered its Call To Artists program for more than five years. We have enjoyed sharing our space with both experienced and emerging artists during that time, as well as partnering with Beaverton Arts Commission, ArtSmart, CraneAge, Lake Area Artists, High Desert Art League, and Beaverton High School to name a few.

But things change with time, and time tells me I need to slow down and simplify my life somewhat. The August Call To Artists will be our last Call. We will still feature Blaine Johnson's solo show in September and partner with the Beaverton Downtown Association for an Art Walk presentation in October. And, of course, the member artist portion of the gallery will continue to operate.

On behalf of everyone at Art On Broadway Gallery, I wish to thank those of you who participated over the years for your loyalty and support. Hope you'll join us one more time!  Donna
