"when darkness comes" - Powerful Show for May/June by Angela Ridgway

Work for this exhibit was installed yesterday and will officially open on Wednesday, May 3.

Angela Ridgway reached inward to collect her thoughts and feelings about depression; she then reached outward to express those thoughts and feelings in words and visual imagery that clearly share the pain and loneliness that so many of us face day to day.

If you've suffered from depression, or know someone who has or does, then you will quickly connect with the artwork that Angela has created, and the poetic statements she has written to accompany each piece in this exhibit.

just be here
don’t try to make me happy
just be here by my side
and let me know you care

Angela plans to donate 15% of show sales to the
 National Alliance on Mental Illness(NAMI).

Photography & Embossed Metal

In addition to all the items highlighted previously about our Spring Boutique, I want to bring your attention to the work of Russell J. Young and Barb Sedgwick.

Russell is a man of many talents - poet, set designer, story teller, and photographer. He is currently selling several of his framed photos, copies of one of his books, and photo greeting cards in our boutique. His book, In The Mist, is a collaboration with seven esteemed Oregon poets. Russell says it, "binds together poetry and photography in a relationship in which one is not excluded from the other, but rather both are met and bound and emerge as a new wholeness; a wholeness seeking that which is hidden in the mist and that which is revealed: silence, memory, breath."

Russell's book and a large print of one of his painterly photographs, along with three of Barb's embossed aluminum frames, are shown in the photo below.

Barb creates small decorative pieces of art featuring embellished copper, aluminum, and/or pewter. Anything from jewelry boxes, picture frames, switch plates, etc. She is a frequent guest artist whose work is always well received, always well priced, and often sells quickly.

Spring Boutique Launches Strong

We started off with strong sales at our guest boutique this weekend; however there's still a lot to choose from. If you're looking for gifts, you'll want to stop by to see the lovely things we have for sale.

If you love ceramics, we've got ceramics. Check out the work of
Susan Gallacher-Turner and Tim Havens -

And if you love fiber art, we have that as well.
Reiko Archer and Peg Silloway offer beautiful woven and felted scarves.

Heather John, of Heather Belle Jewelry, describes her work as "elegant gemstone jewelry with an edge. Each piece brings together my sense of wonder for natural gemstones and my love for refined design."

Deb Steele says, "My designs reflect the things I love, often taking buyers into the garden, to the oceanside or travel destinations."

Work by these two guest artists will be available in the gallery thru April 29.

Recap of Tuesdays @ Two Demo by Dianne Erickson

Dianne gets a gold star for her encaustic monotype demonstration on Tuesday. First she shared a variety of monotypes she had previously created including a scroll and a figurative image she calls "Bill" - it reminds her of Bill Gates. She shared some of her materials and techniques, then gave each attendee an opportunity to create their own nonobjective monotype. After a short break, Dianne showed how she often uses walnut oil and India ink to go back into the piece and experiment even more. Once again, she offered a hands-on experience for everyone to see for themselves how the original wax application reacts with the oil and ink. A fun and informational afternoon thanks to Dianne!

A recent addition to AOB, Dianne has five framed encaustic monotypes currently on exhibit.

Contact the gallery at info@artonbroadway to reserve a space for future Tuesdays @ Two Demos - drawing, watercolor, and felting. Seating is limited.
