"Experimental Journeys" - Paintings by Sandy Dutko

Sandy has been a member of Art On Broadway for a year; October will be her first featured show since joining us. However, Sandy's work will be familiar to many of you through her memberships and exhibits with Painters Showcase, Lake Area Artists, Buffalo Grass Society and Oregon Society of Artists.

Her experimental paintings begin with either an inspirational idea from nature or from an abstract start that she creates from making marks, stamping, monoprinting, marbling, spraying, or pouring paint onto the painting surface. Sandy's painting starts give her the initial idea of where to begin. Each step leads her to the next and the finished work is always a surprise. She likes to try something new in each painting and believes that taking risks leads to more interesting work. Because of this approach, her work is continually changing and evolving.

The gallery will host a public reception in honor of Sandy on Saturday, October 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Complimentary wine and refreshments.  Her show opens on October 7 and continues through October 31. Come join us and enjoy the wide range of Sandy's many talents!

October Guest Exhibit - "HIVE"

Twelve members of the International Encaustic Artists, Portland Chapter, will offer a cooperative exhibit in October on the Guest Wall in the West Wing of the gallery. "HIVE" is a fascinating concept spearheaded by Pam Nichols and includes individual pieces by Bridget Benton, Robyn Bogardus, Betsy Bustamonte, Kathleen Curtis Cosgrove, Dianne Erickson, Chantel Greene, Sue Jensen, Manuela Kalestiantz, Pam Nichols, Virginia Parks, Ruth Ann Skodacek, and Kelly Williams.

These artists have combined their collective energy using the power of beeswax to build a body of work by sculpting, carving, inlaying, fusing, burnishing, drawing, and painting - the result is HIVE. Just as bees gather together in a place of great activity to create wax,  these twelve artists have come together to turn that gift of wax into an assemblage of hexagonal paintings that honor the Hive and link each piece to the others.

We are honored to share this thoughtful exhibit with you.

5 Year Anniversary Celebration - More Details

The date and time is set so put us on your schedule for Sunday, October 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Bert and I are planning some tasty hors d'oeuvres for your enjoyment and six of our former artists will return with a piece of artwork they will offer for sale during the event - Margaret Carter - Printmaker, Chris Helton - Painter, Stephen Kekule - Painter, Beth O'Mahony - Ceramic Artist, Don Schwartz - Photographer, and Susette Wilson - Glass Blower.

In addition to visiting with all the artists and enjoying the refreshments, enter to win one of the five spots (one for every year) in a "Paint Party" to take place in my home studio in Beaverton at a date to be determined. All materials will be provided to complete an acrylic painting on canvas. Refreshments will be included. You'll have fun, make some new friends, and go home with your very own finished painting.

Our new sidewalk is complete so there's easy access to our front door once again. See you on October 4.
